With an urban growth averaging 4,4% annually, Indonesia experiences the highest rate of urbanization in Asia (higher than in India and China). It is predicted that 68% of the population will live in cities in the next decade.
Although Tanzania has been considered as a model of performance in the fiscal arena, the country is at a crossroad of its strategic macro-economic development. The needs remain important in terms of public expenditure, health facilities, water and sanitation, education and poverty alleviation programs. The country has enough assets and resources to become a leader on sustainability and stability in the region. The human resources and skills’ potentials are tremendous. As many of its neighbours, Tanzania is also facing challenges related to governance, implementation of the tax system, fairness in tax harmonization, poverty alleviation, infrastructure, agricultural modernization, access to facilities in remote areas, and job opportunities for the youth.
As many other islands, Guadeloupe is a small island territory located in the intertropical zone. This situation makes it particularly vulnerable to various threats induced by climate change, such as the risks associated with accelerated coastal erosion (sea level rise, increased cyclone intensity). Moreover, 31 of the 32 towns of Guadeloupe are located on the littoral and are vulnerable to climate change.
Climate Change and Cities is a susbtancial book/report, recently published by the University Climate Change Research Network at the Cambridge University Press (links: UK / USA). It has been recognized as innovative and impactful, with concrete opportunities for continued contribution to the field of urban planning and urban design. The confluence of research and operational application is providing a blueprint for how to convincingly configure sustainable and climate-resilient urban districts.
Pilot4Dev celebrated its second General Assembly on March 28th in Brussels. This will be the opportunity to highlight our achievements. We developed partnerships in 8 countries and more regions, to support climate action, development, gender equality, but also civic rights and dialogue with civil society.
PILOT4DEV organized in June a panel on Climate during the 4th Entreps Awards event on S.D.Gs. The videos are now available on our blog. The panel took place at the European Committee of the Regions. We welcomed Evelyne Huytebroeck, former Minister for the Environment, Meera Ghani ECOLISE, Bjorn Stockhausen, Seas at Risk and Emmanuel Katrakis, the European Confederation of recycling industries.
